Wenzel Thomas Matiegka (Václav Tomáš Matějka, Wenzeslav, or Wenzeslaus) was a Czech composer, guitarist, and pianist. After studying and practicing law for a short period, Matiegka moved to Vienna where he became well known as a guitarist, composer and teacher of the piano. He was included and respected in the musical circles of Vienna. A young Schubert added a cello part to his Notturno Op. 21 (originally for flute, viola and guitar; Schubert arrangement D.96). His guitar opus includes 33 guitar works including solo works, transcriptions, chamber music, and lieder.
