The instructional videos are very helpful. Werner covers all facets of the pieces and also indicates why you should play something in one way or another. Fingering, melody lines, tips, everything is covered. What I really like is that the tabulature version is also included
Wow! Really nice lesson! Really liked the way you talked about the more tricky parts of the piece, especially the fingering in measures 70 and 71. Really makes that stretch in measure 71 easier to play as the fingers are in position. Thank you so much for the music to this beautiful piece!
I'm about 4 lessons in on Brad's new book on right hand fingering concepts and case studies. The first couple of lessons, it reinforced what I (hopefully) already do. Now, it's getting into areas that are giving me new ideas. For instance, alternatives for playing 5 and 6 string arpeggios, or choosing between rest and free stroke for sustain effect. Really glad I bought it, very helpful. The videos that go along with it are top notch, as always.
First off, I am a beginner. I have been playing for some 60 years but have not moved past someone else's book 2. I hav found that I can make progress with Bradford's Lessons. I watched the first video and thought this might help with understanding some of the lessons Bradford has set up. At first, I simply sat down and read. I got through the first 24 pages. It isn't a hard read and I could not see trying the various fingering ideas yet. Having practiced the first 55 open string exercises in the technique book I was pleasantly surprised to now understand why we practice the awkward fingering.
I have been having trouble with open string exercise 54. I realize that it is not an awkward fingering problem, my hands just don't want to do it. Thinking about the awkward examples I had before me I have gone back to exercise 54 with the the intent of mastering it and then working through the fingering examples.
At 78 years old, it is all about motivation and understanding. I have an arrangement for "The Band Played On." Fingering is suggested but to date I have not payed too much attention to it. Now that I am beginning to understand I will go back and re-learn it.
I haven't spent a lot of time with this book yet, but I really like what I've done so far. It is certainly helping my speed and dexterity with my instrument. The lessons are well planned and well done! The price is right and the download was easy. Thanks Bradford Werner!
Excellent book as mentioned in my previous review. I would be excited to see an expanded companion volume on item No.21, Cleaning up sustain overlap. Damping is a confounding topic, with options for right and left hand damping. There are many questions that come up for me: when to damp with p by collapsing it backward onto the lower ringing open string, when to play the next note with the thumb back and then move it back onto the ringing string. There are questions about when to use a left hand finger to touch a ringing string, or when to use a less rounded/collapsed left finger on a descending passage to stop the ring. In general, discussion of when it matters to damp and when ringing is inaudible and therefore musically unimportant. A goal of mine is to clean up muddy sound and have more complete control over the voices, which seems to require improvements to muting. Any advice you could share through basic principles and case studies would be wonderful and greatly appreciated!
The sheet music for this study No. 1 is very good, explained as usual, that is to say very clearly. While the piece is majestic, it is also sufficiently technical without being too much. Congratulations and thank you, because with this piece, I really feel like I’ve progressed again, and anyway, it’s an immense pleasure to play such a work. What sound, what originality. I didn’t know, but I love Mr. REGONDI's music, it’s really great.
Like all of Bradford’s works Right Hand Fingering is another excellent resource for advancing your classical guitar technique.
I am benefiting greatly from both the general guidance and specific problem-solving examples. Right hand fingering can be a bit of a mystery for the student guitarist, and this text engages the critical thinking needed to unravel the solutions that are practical and meet the demands of the music. I hope there will be a left hand text released to complement this work. Thank you for creating such high quality materials.
... but sometimes it takes someone to state the obvious before the light comes on. There were moments where I found myself doing an eye roll and shaking my head.... why didn't I think of that. What appear to be the smallest of things can often make such a difference. Thank you, Brad. I've thoroughly enjoyed working through this book. It's given me a lot to think about.
As an early advanced guitarist I’m really happy to have this resource. It’s a great compendium of a wide variety of technical exercises, scale and arpeggios to name a few. Previously I had a fixed warn up consisting of the same exercises, moveable scales, Guiliani and syncronicity speed work. I was stagnant and this book is a breath of change and fresh air. Thanks Bradford for breaking me out of my regular routine and stretching me more!
I get 78 this year. Began playing aged 16. This first 62 years of playing have been fun for me. But seldom for a listener. And not much progress I'm afraid. I like things as they are, to prosper by small attempts. What would happen if my right hand fingers were taught to be in the most practical place when playing? Brad gives me ideas why there perhaps would be a good idea for me to alter old habits and to think like a practitioner that can pay attention to the details and advantages in a proper fingering. Looking forward to my next 60 years of playing. Being particular when needed.
I've been working on the Rondeau and Pastorel for about a month now and am really happy with both scores! Both pieces are a lot of fun and nothing really feels awkward even though my skill level isn't very high. Highly recommend this collection =)
Interesting that a person would have enough C G background knowledge to be able to produce a 58 page booklet on such a topic. Loads of examples assist in such a study. It must be a one-of-a-kind booklet, as I have never seen such extensive info on that particular topic. If one is studying the guitar (at any level) it is useful to be conscious of the variations in fingering choices and Brad Werner explains why in his 58 pages. Can a booklet on "LEFT hand fingering" be of use as well? Maybe with fewer pages by necessity. I've bought every book Brad has ever published 'cuz they are useful, accurate and well thought out. I hope he Is enjoying Victoria again! G.Keenan
