Fantasia No.1 by Luis de Milán (c.1500-1561) - Originally for vihuela. PDF sheet music arranged for classical guitar. Comes with both a notation edition with left hand fingering and a separate unfingered notation edition and a modern tab edition. PDF Download.
Note: Fingered for relative lute tuning (3rd string is tuned down to F sharp) with optional capo at 3rd fret. The level is intermediate (Grade 6). Overall it is mainly in first position with simple shapes but has some fingerings for voice leading and independence that need close attention.
Fantasía No.1 by Luis de Milán (c.1500-1561), also Luys Milán, comes from his Libro de música de vihuela de mano intitulado El Maestro (1536). One of the first published music collections for the vihuela de mano. There are many editions of this music available but this edition focuses on voice leading and legato connection.

As I get better at playing relative lute tuning this renaissance piece has been a pleasure to learn. Thank you Bradford for pointing out how all the voices come into play. I love your video lessons.
Hi Bradford,
I enjoyed your lesson on Fantasia #1. I will say at the outset that I consider my skill level to be around low intermediate; mid-intermediate if you want to be generous. It has been very helpful to my playing to hear pieces played well on a high-quality instrument, so thanks for your video lessons.
This is the first piece I have played that tunes the 3rd string down to F#, and it has taken some getting-used-to. It has forced me to slow down and really concentrate and each measure, and that's a very good thing. Rushing through a piece is a reliable way to never master it.
Fantasia is a "simple" but very pretty piece, and I think your tempo is about right (~108, I think). It also provides a good exercise in sustaining select notes through and across measures.
Thanks again,
Mark Norman
